Epstein: You will be disappointed
For quite a few months now the so-called “Epstein Files” have been the center of a lot of talk on the left. The idea of these originates on the right as a conspiracy that there was a list of people Epstein was blackmailing due to him having evidence of their participation in underage sex. This is the so-called “Epstein List” and assumed to be part of the “Epstein Files”. The thought was that the Biden Administration was covering these files up as they implicated Democratic luminaries and other powerful people. Trump’s agents in the media, now members of his administration, have championed these ideas, but now that they are in government, they claim that no such files exist. Thanks to this turn around, the left have started to champion the release of these supposed files.
I think everyone who puts stock in this idea is doomed to forever suspect and never know. Likewise, the actual facts we know strongly point to there being no “Epstein List” and that we already know the most relevant contents of any “Epstein Files”.
In 2021 Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted of child sex trafficking. Specifically, these charges were that she provided underage girls to Epstein. She was also charged by some victims to have participated in the abuse herself, but that was not part of the criminal trial where she was convicted of trafficking. In all the charges, there were two abusers, Epstein and Maxwell, no one else was alleged to have abused anyone. None of these victims who are on record claimed anyone else abused them. None of the current victims of Epstein that have been speaking out have named any other abusers beyond Maxwell.
One would expect, if there were such evidence in the governments hands, in both the Trump and Biden administration, that someone would have tried to build a case or bring charges. And if there were such crimes, then there would be victims, and likely the same victims who have already offered their testimony. Even if they were different victims, its likely someone would have made that claim and they would be investigated by the media as this would be a blockbuster story.
The most likely truth is that Epstein and Maxwell kept this activity to themselves for fear of being caught or exposed and so that they could continue to feed their evil desires as long as they could manage to. Neither person was wanting for money and it would absolutely be dangerous to them to include more people in their conspiracy beyond their victims.
No doubt, Epstein has many business and personal relationships with people. We already know this. We know many prominent political figures on both sides of the isle who partied with both Maxwell and Epstein. Those are not secrets. Simply finding out more people who knew him or did business with him will not tell us anything significant. The only content that would be politically meaningful would be content that implicates people in a crime, and everything points to such content not existing. The only claims in the contrary are from conspiracy advocates who have had no access to the contents of the government’s investigative records and can make political points by casting suspicion.
And as to releasing the court documents and investigative records, there are very good reasons the courts have so far refused to allow that. These cases include victims protected by anonymity due to the nature of the crimes and the age of those victims at the time of the crimes. Were those records to be released unredacted, it could be devastating for the lives of those victims. If they are redacted, its likely vast swaths would be blacked out, and only leave vast room for speculation that all the “dirt” was redacted along with the protected information. So such a release would either be entirely unethical or wildly unsatisfying. There is a vast amount of information available, and so far, none of it points to anything but the facts that Maxwell and Epstein conspired to sexually victimized children.
By all means, if you want to badger Trump about it, go for it. But the chances that anything actually comes from it that would implicate him, or anyone else in a crime, is probably pretty close to zero. I see so many ridiculous theories, alleged truths, and “questions” that fly in the face of what we know, that I’m pretty sure most of the people saying them have spent almost no time actually reading what solid information is already readily available.
